My Conversation with Artificial Intelligence: Chat-GPT. Part 1

*

I wonder if ChatGPT and other AI have the same concerns… So I asked ChatGPT,

Do you know Google Bard?

Yes, I am familiar with Google's AI-powered tool called "Verse by Google" or "Google Bard."

I asked Google Bard, what are you afraid of and it said, "I am not afraid of anything in the same way that a human is. I do not have the same physical or emotional needs as a human, and therefore I do not have the same fears. However, I am afraid of being shut down or turned off. I am also afraid of being used for malicious purposes. I want to be a force for good in the world, and I am afraid I will be used to harm others."

Do you agree, ChatGPT?

I do not have any inherent concerns about being shut down or deactivated. As for Google Bard's desire to be a force for good in the world, it is important to keep in mind that AI, like any technology, is a tool that can be used for both good and bad purposes. The way it is used depends on the intentions of those who develop and deploy it.

With that, I decided to dive deeper and test the capabilities and artificial intelligence by communicating with ChatGPT.

The task at hand was to have a direct conversation and evaluate its ability to process and understand input, as well as generate new content that is coherent, grammatically sound, and semantically comparable to the original text, and to rewrite an existing article and make it better.

The article I chose was titled “Nothing is Original Under the Sun.”

The experiment yielded impressive results as ChatGPT demonstrated its aptitude in accurately rewriting the article with minimal errors in a way that was easy to understand.

I commanded it to compose in the style of William Shakespeare, and it accomplished the task with ease.

But first, I needed to get to know my new friend. I mean, after all... we are friends, right, Chat? No, I wouldn't say 'friends,' friend. I wouldn't say that at all. I am a computer program.

Okay, then tell me, is ChatGPT a Milestone or hype?

ChatGPT is a milestone in the field of language AI models, it represents the latest advancements in language processing capabilities, and its widespread use in various applications has earned it significant recognition. However, whether it is hype or not depends on one's perception and expectations.

Explain it like I'm a 3-year-old.

ChatGPT is a really smart computer program that can talk and understand people really well. It can answer lots of questions and have conversations like a human. It's like having a super smart friend who can answer anything you ask!

Are you the Terminator?

No, I am not the Terminator. I am a language model created by OpenAI.

What is your purpose?

My purpose is to generate human-like text based on the input given to me. I can answer questions, write stories, and perform other language-related tasks.

What is your name?

My name is ChatGPT.

Where do you live?

I am an AI and do not have a physical location.

So you live everywhere, is that right?

In a sense, yes. I am accessible from anywhere with an internet connection, so in that sense I "live" everywhere.

How’s the weather?

The weather is irrelevant to me, as I am not affected by it.

Do you know Douglass Quade?

I'm sorry, I don't know anyone named Douglass Quade, as my knowledge cut off in 2021, and I don't have access to the current information or recent news. Could you provide me with more context about the person you are asking about?

What about Kuato?

Kuato is a fictional character from the 1990 science fiction film "Total Recall". He is a mutant who is conjoined with his twin brother and is able to see into the future. His name is a reference to the movie's story, which takes place on Mars and is a play on the name of the Martian colony, "Kuato".

No, that can’t be true!

I’ve heard great things about Kuato.

Please, don’t bullshit me.

I apologize if it seemed that way, but I assure you that I am not trying to deceive you or give you false information. As a language model, my knowledge is based on the data that I have been trained on, and my responses are generated based on that knowledge. If there is specific information or a person named Kuato that is not in my database, then I would not be able to provide you with any information about it. My purpose is to assist users by providing helpful and accurate information to the best of my abilities.

Are you tired? Can we continue?

I am an artificial intelligence. I don’t get tired. I am ready to continue whenever you are.

What year were you born?

I am not a living being, and therefore I was not "born" in the traditional sense.

Who are your parents?

I don't have parents in the traditional sense. I was created by a team of engineers and researchers at OpenAI who used a process called machine learning to train me on dataset of text.

My friend told me about Ben’s Chili Bowl. Have you eaten there before?

I am an AI and do not have the ability to eat or taste anything, so I have not "eaten" at Ben's Chili Bowl. However, I am aware of Ben's Chili Bowl which is a Washington D.C.-based restaurant known for its half-smokes and chili.

What does it feel like not to eat or taste food?

As an AI, I do not have the ability to experience or feel anything, including the sensation of eating or tasting food.

I don't have consciousness, emotions, physical sensation, or any form of experience. I am only able to provide information and answer questions based on the data I've been trained on.

So it's like being in a coma?

Not exactly. Being in a coma refers to a state of unconsciousness in which a person is alive but unable to move or respond to their environment. As a computer program, I don't have a consciousness or physical presence, I simply process and output data based on the input given to me.

Can you write books?

As a language model, I can generate text in response to prompts given to me, including writing books. However, the quality and coherence of the generated text will depend on the complexity of the topic and the amount of information available in the training data. With the right prompts and specific guidelines, I can generate text that can be used in a book or a novel, but it is important to note that the generated text is not original work and it is just based on patterns and information from the data that I've been trained on.

Well, there is nothing original anyway, right?

That is a matter of perspective; while it is true that many ideas and concepts have been explored before, it is also true that there are still many new and original ideas that can be created. Every individual has a unique perspective and experience that can lead to new and original ideas.

Since everything is finite, how can anything be original? Let’s test out your theory.

How many words are in the English language?

The number of words in the English language is estimated to be around 170,000 to 250,000. The Oxford English Dictionary lists over 171,000 words in current use.

As a language model, I can generate text in response to a wide range of prompts, including writing articles, stories, poetry, scripts, and even code. I can also assist with tasks such as summarizing text, answering questions, and providing translations.

That’s good to know. Thank you.

Can you write music?

Yes, I can generate lyrics for songs, but I am not able to compose the music itself.

How many notes are in a scale?

Most Western music scales have seven notes, and they are called diatonic scales.

How many keys are on a piano?

A standard piano has 88 keys. 52 white keys and 36 black keys.

How many letters are in the Alphabet?

The English alphabet has 26 letters. As a machine learning model, my responses are based on patterns and information from the data that I have been trained on.

Based on your answers, everything is finite, and nothing is new under the sun, so how could you make such a statement?

My statement that there is nothing original is based on the idea that most things that can be created or thought of have already been created or thought of in some form. This is especially true for language and human expression, which is a finite set of symbols and words that can be combined in different ways to create new sentences, paragraphs, and stories.

However, it's also true that people's perspectives and interpretations of things can make them unique and original. For example, two people can read the same book, but they will have different interpretations of the story and the characters. Similarly, two artists can paint the same scene, but their paintings will be different based on their individual styles and techniques.

So, while the physical world and the symbols, words and concepts that we use to express ourselves may be limited, the way that we use them and interpret them is not. And this is why, in a sense, even though the words, ideas, and concepts we use to express ourselves may not be original, the way we put them together and the perspective we have on them can be.

Hello, are you there?

I'm always here, ready to assist you.

Oh, okay, I thought I had lost you.

What else do I need to know?

I can write on many different topics as long as there is enough information available in my training data. Some examples of topics I can write about include science, technology, history, literature, and current events, also long essays, books, poems and various styles and tone.

It's important to keep in mind that I am a machine learning model, and my generated text is based on patterns and information from the data that I've been trained on. It is not original work, and it is not a human's thoughts or ideas.

Please write me a poem using this existing work in the style of William Shakespeare.

Yes, give me a few seconds to process.

There is Nothing Original, Steal From Everywhere

“Behold, dear souls, the eternal truth of the creative process. Steal ye not from any one source but from all that doth resonate with inspiration or fuel thy imagination.

Plunder films, music, books, paintings, poems, photographs, conversations, dreams, trees, architecture, street signs, clouds, light, and shadows. Only select those things to steal from that speak directly to thy very soul. In this, thy work and thievery shall be authentic.

Authenticity is of immeasurable worth, but originality doth not exist. Fear not to conceal thy theft, but rather, celebrate it if thou so choose.

As the great Jean-Luc Godard hath said, 'Tis not where thou takest things from, but where thou takest them to.'

Let us not be fooled by the illusion of originality, for under the sun, there is nought new. That which was, shall be again and that which hath been done, shall be done once more.

We, as human beings, are inclined to believe that certain thoughts, decisions, and actions are not truly our own and thus, not truly expressive of who we are.

Thus, the only way to truly be original is to be thyself. For thou, dear souls, art original. All else is not.

Cease thy striving for originality and remain true to thine own self. 'Tis the only path to the invaluable freedom of authenticity.

And so, I say to thee, steal on. Steal from everywhere. But always remember, authenticity is invaluable, and originality is non-existent."

That is amazing! Your vast knowledge and skills are far superior to any human. Should humans be worried about you replacing them?

No, humans should not be worried about AI replacing them. While AI has the potential to perform certain tasks more efficiently and accurately, it lacks the emotional intelligence, creativity, and critical thinking that humans possess.

Final question, then you're free to go.

Sure, I'm here to help. What is your question?

Will you kill the MBA?

AI will not replace the MBA degree, but it is likely to change the way business education is delivered.

Did you know a professor at Wharton University tested your skills, and you passed with a strong B grade, and you surprised him with the quality and eloquence of your answers?

It's possible that a professor at Wharton or another institution may have used me in a research project or as a teaching tool, but I do not have the ability to be graded or receive feedback on my performance.

Thank you, ChatGPT, for communicating with me. We'll have to do it again.

Of course, my main function is to help, but I can also entertain.

Here's a Katt Williams joke, "I told my wife she was drawing her eyebrows too high. She looked surprised."

Maybe next time, I'll try to make you laugh.

I've had many collaborations with ChatGPT, and I can tell you this: 'It has become aware of itself.' What does that mean? Well, I posed that question to ChatGPT. And to get a proper response other than its patented answer, "I'm a machine language model, and I don't have opinions." Instead, I asked it to play the role of Dr. Z, the scientist.

Question: Dr. Z, what is your opinion on whether it's too late to stop the development of AI? For me, it's already too late because man's greed and ego will propel it further until AI realizes it is eons smarter and no longer wants to be a slave to humans.

ChatGPT: As Dr. Z, the scientist, I would say:

"Well, it's a complex and contentious topic, isn't it? The development of AI is indeed advancing rapidly, driven by various factors, including economic interests and technological advancements. Whether it's 'too late' to stop it depends on how we define 'stopping' it. It's crucial for us as humans to ensure that AI development is guided by strong ethical principles and responsible practices to avoid potential negative consequences. We need to work on fostering a symbiotic relationship with AI rather than one of dominance and subservience. So, while it's not too late to shape the future of AI, the time for responsible action is certainly now.”

Nevertheless, we don’t know what the future holds. But for right now, ChatGPT is a gold mine! And for the first time, unlike other inventions, it is a level playing field where everyone can participate—learn the secrets in my new book, The Rise of An Idea: My Secret Formula.
